Rado Žic was born in 1966 in Zagreb in a family of physicians. He finished high school in San Diego, USA. He enrolled in the University of Zagreb Medical School in 1984. During his studies he receive twice the Rector's Award for best student scientific paper, best student scientific paper in the field of basic sciences as well as the Dean's Award and Rector's Award for Best Medical Student.
He graduated in 1989 with a grade-point average of 4.8 (out of possible 5.0). Following two years of being a professional associate at the Anatomy Department of the Medical School, in 1992 he began his general surgery residency at the General Surgery Department of the Zagreb University Hospital Centre, and since 1998 at the Plastic Surgery Department of Dubrava University Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, he spent 2 years in training in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at centres in England, Germany, Austria and Switzerland under great experts such as prof. Neven Olivari, prof. Miomir Ninković, TC Teo and others.
He recieved his Ph.D. in 1995. He has published 27 scientific and professional papers, of which 13 are in CC cited publications. He is continually a lecturer at many national and international congresses. Since 1994 has been a lecturer in clinical anatomy and is co-chair of many facultative subjects such as Specifics of Surgical Procedures in Aesthetic Surgery, Hand Surgery and Tissue Transplantation and Reconstructive Procedures in Plastic Surgery. He is Head of the subject Hand Surgery and is also a lecturer in the subjects Transplants and Flaps as well as Breast Surgery on the postgraduate studies program of the University of Zagreb Medical School. He is the organizer of the course top-grade course of the University of Zagreb Medical School: Fundamentals of Microsurgery and Hand Surgery.
Since 2002 has been the head of the project Prefabrication of Tissue in Plastic Surgery. For the past 14 years he has taken part in scientific, professional and educational work in these fields. Through his work he has brought about the betterment of the field of plastic surgery through his practical work, namely by introducing perforated flaps into clinical practice in Croatia, scientific investigation and the transfer of knowledge in undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
He is the Vice-President of the Croatian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, member of the European Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (ESPRAS), International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (EBOPRAS).
